Cookie Policy

What this policy covers

This policy explains how We Love Soho uses cookies and similar technologies on welovesoho.co.uk and its subdomains. It does not cover the We Love Soho mobile application, which stores data locally on your device and does not use browser cookies.

What we use, in short

We use a small number of essential cookies and stored preferences to make the site work. With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Analytics do not run until you accept them in the cookie notice, and you can change your mind at any time.

We do not use:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels (no Facebook pixel, no LinkedIn Insight, no TikTok pixel, or similar)
  • Third-party profiling cookies of any kind

We do not use Google Ads or any third-party advertising cookies, and we do not share your data with advertising networks. Any remarketing we do runs inside our own app using your in-app activity, is described separately in our privacy notice, and does not involve Google Analytics advertising features.

Cookie categories

We group what we use into two categories:

  • Essential. Needed for the site to function and to remember your choices, including your cookie and theme preferences and keeping you signed in to your account. These do not need your consent because the site cannot work properly without them.
  • Analytics (consent required). Google Analytics 4, used only after you accept it, to measure how the site is used (for example, which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from). These stay switched off unless you accept them.

Analytics: Google Analytics (only with your consent)

When you accept analytics in the cookie notice, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-NYGSFYMS6P) to understand how people use the site. We use it in consent mode: analytics storage is switched off by default, and Google Analytics does not set analytics cookies or send us any measurement about your visit until you have accepted. If you decline, or if you take no action, analytics stay off.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_<container>) to tell repeat visits apart and measure usage. Google acts as our data processor for this. We have configured analytics-only consent: advertising storage, ad personalisation, and ad-related data sharing are all left switched off.

Google Analytics involves transferring some data to Google, including to the United States. Google relies on safeguards for such transfers, including the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. We keep Google Analytics event and user data for 14 months, after which Google deletes it; aggregate, non-identifying reports may be kept longer. For more detail, see the privacy notice and Google's own policies.

Our lawful basis for analytics cookies is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time (see "Changing or withdrawing your consent" below).

Cookies and stored preferences in detail

Name Category Purpose Duration
wls.theme Essential Stores your light/dark theme preference (localStorage, not a cookie) Persistent
wls.cookies Essential Records your cookie choice (whether you accepted or declined analytics), so we can honour it and not ask you again on every visit (localStorage, not a cookie). A companion value, wls.cookies.at, records when you made the choice. Persistent
Session cookie Essential Used to keep you logged in to your account at welovesoho.co.uk/account (set by the account worker on login only) Session / 48 hours
_ga Analytics (consent) Set by Google Analytics only after you accept analytics. Distinguishes visitors to measure site usage. Up to 2 years
_ga_<container> Analytics (consent) Set by Google Analytics only after you accept analytics. Maintains session state for this GA4 property. Up to 2 years

The theme and cookie-choice preferences are stored in localStorage, not as HTTP cookies: they never leave your device. The Google Analytics cookies above are only set if you accept analytics; if you decline, or take no action, they are not set.

Payment provider cookies

When you complete a payment on welovesoho.co.uk, you interact with Stripe's payment flow. Stripe may set their own cookies to process the payment securely and prevent fraud. These cookies are subject to Stripe's own cookie policy and privacy notice. We Love Soho does not access or control these cookies.

Your rights under UK PECR and UK GDPR

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (UK PECR) and the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Know what cookies are set and why
  • Refuse non-essential cookies, including analytics
  • Withdraw consent at any time

Our essential cookies and stored preferences do not need your consent, because the site cannot work properly without them. Our analytics cookies (Google Analytics) do need your consent: they are switched off by default and are only used if you accept them in the cookie notice.

Withdrawing consent for analytics is as easy as giving it, and does not affect the lawfulness of any measurement that took place while your consent was active.

Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change or withdraw your cookie choice at any time:

  • Use the cookie notice to accept or decline analytics.
  • Clear this site's data in your browser (see below). This resets your saved choice, so the cookie notice will appear again on your next visit and analytics will be off until you choose again.
  • Use your browser's own controls to block or delete cookies.

If you decline, or clear your choice and take no further action, Google Analytics stays switched off.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can clear localStorage and cookies at any time through your browser settings. This will reset your theme preference and cookie choice, remove any Google Analytics cookies, and will log you out of your account.

Instructions for clearing site data: Chrome, Firefox, Safari.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if we change the technologies we use. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will change accordingly. We will not introduce advertising or profiling cookies, or any new consent-requiring technology, without updating this policy and offering you a choice first.
